Teaching: Learning about the local with UWA and Nanjing Forestry University

This past week, students and staff from Nanjing Forestry University have joined us for an intensive design studio at the University of Western Australia, ‘Understanding Sense of Place in Perth’. The workshop been centred on exploring ways to know and respond to sites within the Swan Coastal Plain.

Together with the visiting group, we've considered a number of local landscapes, had conversations with landscape architecture studios GHDWoodhead, Seedesign Studio and Place Laboratory, and collected site learnings through a series of hand drawings. We were also privileged to have Sandra Harben – researcher and Whadjuk/Balardong Nyungar woman – join us for a Welcome to Country and knowledge sharing session.

A big thank you to the staff and students of Nanjing Forestry University for all of their hard work. We’ve loved learning about our local landscapes through the eyes of our visitors.
