Communicating medium density planning policy with Design WA
Project: Design WA diagram suite
Situation:
Design WA is a State Government initiative working to ensure good design is at the centre of all development in Western Australia.
Their team was looking to clearly communicate the most recent Medium Density Housing Policy Residential Design Codes and Guidelines with a unique, cohesive and approachable visual style.
Results:
We collaborated closely with the Design WA team to design a suite of diagrams and illustrations that complement and communicate the recommendations of the new codes.
Together, we developed diagrams and illustrations that visually communicated the spatial recommendations of the planning policy, while also establishing a drawing style that is friendly and uniquely local.
A colour palette, inspired by the Western Australian landscape, is used throughout our illustrations, drawing them together in style and feel. Additionally, a bespoke animal and human character community populates the scenes.
The result is family of documents that clearly communicate WA’s new planning policy to a variety of audiences.
