Situation:
UNIT was a series of temporary shoreline installations by local landscape architects and architects for the second Fremantle Biennale.

Our site was a harbourside space between two sheds, at the Fremantle TAFE campus. We found this site to be an informal but well utilised thoroughfare between TAFE buildings, carparking and areas for staff and student breaks.

Results:
Our temporary installation, Below, considered and formalised the well-trodden path of movement through the site.

Our installation also grappled with the notions of surface, depth and change over time. The harbourside site is on a portion of land that was previously water. As it stands today, water lies somewhere beneath the site’s current collection of hard surfaces. And, in the not too distant future, water will return to envelop those surfaces, bringing with it many changes.
