Giving distinction to a new stage in an architecture practice’s longstanding legacy

Project: Ehdo

Situation:
Ehdo, a Fremantle-based architecture practice, came to us as they were approaching a turning point in their practice. With a heritage going back to rammed earth construction pioneer Giles Hohnen, and restructured leadership under Dave Delahunty, Ehdo was looking to clarify the next phase in the studio’s evolution – a new ground to speak from.

Results:
We worked together with the Ehdo team to develop a redefined identity that was both respectful to the past and assured about the future.

First up, we carried out several workshops to develop a central ‘key message’ to define the way forward for our work together, as well as to ground all future visual and verbal communications for the Ehdo team.

Driven by this ‘key message’, and to give the practice a tool for expanding their brand across digital and physical platforms, we created an abbreviated sub-mark focusing on the horizontal notch. The notch, which acts as a graphic anchor, is both a straightforward nod to the practice’s enduring presence in the local design and architecture fields and a playful phonetic guide.

We then built a new, responsive web presence that reflected Ehdo’s core values, recent projects and ‘beyond architecture’ interests, balanced with the respectful presentation of the practice’s longstanding legacy. This is complemented by a suite of printed materials.

Today, the Ehdo visual identity, website and communications suite together communicate a confident and down-to-earth architecture practice that designs environmentally attuned buildings around the daily patterns of life.
