We were lucky to work together with five local and national artists for the Parkway Artway, an outdoor art gallery created for the community of Ellenbrook and surrounds. In our Artist Spotlight series, we’ll be sharing a bit about the artists we collaborated with, and about the works they created for this project.

Tyrown Waigana is an Indigenous artist and designer from Perth. He is connected to both the Noongar people from South West Western Australia and Torres Strait Islander people from Saibai Island. He has been creative from an early age and drawing for as long as he can remember. His earliest creative influences were Aboriginal art and cartoons – influences that are present in his work today. Tyrown studied a Bachelor of Arts focusing on Advertising Design and Illustration at Curtin University.

Tyrown’s artwork, Monotonously Exciting Extravagantly Mundane, was commissioned for the Parkway Artway. The work explores the highs and lows of everyday life. For example, you might hate your job but love the people you work with. In creating the piece, Tyrown’s intention was for it to be relatable – perhaps you’ll recognise a small detail that resembles an aspect of your everyday life. Two artworks that were key to Tyrown’s starting point for this piece were Picasso’s Guernica and George Condo’s Compression IV.
